I think it finds a way to blend elements of steam punk and cyber punk together. Civil Protection are portrayed as a much more gritty and dirty police force using actual Eastern European APCs, but also still maintaining a futuristic alien look with the usage of the futuristic looking assault rifles alot of them are seen using.

I love the feel that Civil Protection and cremators give off as you're walking through the streets. The beginning section in it is so much more immersive and grimy feeling in my opinion than the opening of the full release of Half-Life 2. Do you think the HL2 Beta universe is better, or the one that we got with the full release? The video that I just linked shows a modded and recovered version of the Half-Life 2 Beta, and after I watched, I just have to say that I was blown away by what could have been.
